General conditions
- Couples dance to music chosen by the organizer — exception: showcase
- The length of the songs is approx. 1.5-2.5 minutes — 3 to 5 minutes for Showcase
- In the higher categories (e.g. Intermediate, Advanced), a song is more “normal” MJ tempo and one is a bit slower (Smooth)
- The minimum age for participation is 16 years — anyone under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian present.
- Dancers are responsible to warm up enough before their category/round

Review
- Since this is a Modern Jive competition, 80% of the dance content must be Modern Jive (e.g. in the curriculum of an MJ dance school or taught in MJ courses). The organizer is aware of the influence of other dance styles and that this is a constantly evolving dance. In case of uncertainty as to whether a couple is dancing Modern Jive, the organizer relies on the experience of the jurors to evaluate accordingly
- The jurors’ decision is final
- In the event of a tie or disagreement, the chief juror will decide
- The evaluation is based on the “Relative Placement Scoring System”
- Evaluation criteria for jurors:
- connection and communication between partners
- MJ content and diversity
- musicality/interpretation of music
- Timing of characters and breaks
- dance techniques and posture
